The MedDRA Filter

The “MedDRA” filter is an adverse event classification dictionary. It can be used to refine your search results based on the clinically validated international terminology-dictionary thesaurus MedDRA (Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities).

This thesaurus is used by regulatory authorities and across the biopharmaceutical industry, from pre- to post-marketing activities for the entry, retrieval, evaluation and presentation of drug safety information. For more information please visit this link

Use Case 1: Immune System Disorders as side effects of Adalimumab

To explore this use case in Causaly, use the Intelligent Search module to search for Side Effects associated with Adalimumab. In the results page, the pre-selected filters of the proposed search  will include all possible adverse effects associated with Adalimumab use, including the Disorders category below the UMLS filters, as well as all MedDRA subcategories.

To narrow the search to only display Immune System Disorders, deselect Disorders and “All MedDRA'', and keep only the sub-category of interest as selected, in this case, Immune System Disorders (Figure 2.)

The exact search results can be found here

Figure 2. Selecting the Immune System Disorders below All MedDRA category, allows for further refinement toward a specific organ system disorder of interest.

The dendrogram view will now only display relationships of immune system disorders that are associated with the use of adalimumab (Figure 3).
