The Species Filter

The “Species” filter can be used to explore studies conducted on different species. Users can choose from the following options (Figure 1):

Figure 1: The species filter

Use Case: Treatments of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in mouse studies

To explore this use case in Causaly, the powerful and time-saving filters of the Rapid and Advanced Search Modules will be used.

Initially, the search will include all possible Concepts that affect MS. To narrow the search to only display the treatments that affect the disease, the down arrow as well as the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) ontology filter will be used, by selecting “Pharmacologic substances” below Chemicals & Drugs.

Subsequently, in order to refine the results only to treatments in mouse studies, the user can use the “Species” filter and explore the documents performed in mice (Figure 2)

The exact search results can be found here.

The articles displayed will only contain drugs that have been examined in mouse studies (Figure 3).

What if I want to search for another species?

If the species of interest is not listed below the “Species” filter, you can use the text box in the Intelligent search module. For example, if you are interested in animal trials in monkeys, type within the search box “monkeys” (Figure 4).

The articles displayed now will only contain treatments of MS that have been tested in rabbits (link).
